What a Shave! - Shaviour

Meet Shaviour, a stylish, practical solution born out of a simple question: How can we make shaving less messy?

The Problem

Shaving might be a daily ritual, but the cleanup often feels like a chore. Tiny hair trimmings scatter across the sink, turning a quick shave into a longer clean-up session. Our goal was to design a solution that would minimize this mess without disrupting the flow of a morning routine. We aimed to make something that felt intuitive and fit seamlessly into any bathroom.

Research & Insights

We started by listening. We interviewed over 15 men to understand their grooming habits, their frustrations with cleanup, and their makeshift solutions. Here’s what we learned:

  • Frustrations: Most users disliked the tedious cleanup process. They wanted a solution that wouldn’t add more hassle to their routine.

  • Existing Solutions: Products like vacuum trimmers and beard bibs existed, but they had their flaws—vacuum trimmers could be noisy and expensive, while beard bibs were cumbersome to use.

  • User Priorities: Convenience was key. Our interviewees wanted something that was easy to set up, easy to dispose of, and ideally, eco-friendly.

We transformed these insights into a clear direction: a product that focused on simplicity and user experience.

The Product Development Process

This is where the fun began—turning ideas into reality. We brainstormed over 11 concepts, each addressing the problem in a unique way. Here are some highlights:

  • The Lightning Lad: A concept that used electrostatics to attract hair trimmings.

  • Vacuum Trimmer: Inspired by astronaut tech, it aimed to capture hair as you trim.

  • The Shave Roll: A roll of biodegradable sheets designed to catch hair directly over the sink.

We prototyped each idea and took them back to potential users for feedback. The Shave Roll emerged as the clear favorite—it was simple, effective, and easy to integrate into existing routines. So, we set out to refine this concept into what became Shaviour.

Shaviour Takes Shape

With Shaviour, we reimagined the Shave Roll into a triangular shelf that mounts above the sink, housing a roll that catches hair as you trim. It’s designed to blend into any bathroom, offering both functionality and style.

Key Features:

  • Hidden Roll Mechanism: Dispenses sheets that catch hair, keeping the sink clean.

  • Dual Functionality: Doubles as a compact shelf for small grooming tools.

  • Eco-friendly Materials: The roll is biodegradable, keeping the cleanup process green.

We wanted Shaviour to feel like a natural extension of the bathroom, something you’d reach for without a second thought.

Market Strategy

Bringing Shaviour to life is about more than just a good idea—it’s about making sure it finds the right audience.

  • Launch Approach: We’re starting with a direct-to-consumer model through our website and platforms like Amazon. Digital marketing will be our primary tool, from targeted social media ads to engaging content that highlights the product's unique value.

  • Revenue Model: We’re adopting a “razor-and-blade” approach—customers buy the shelf, and then subscribe for roll replacements every few months.

  • Future Plans: We plan to expand into retail channels in years 3 and 4, partnering with home goods and grooming retailers to reach a broader audience.

The Final Result: Shaviour

Dimensions: 29x5x5 inches, perfect for most bathrooms.

  • Setup: Simple installation with a hidden roll mechanism.

  • Roll Life: Each roll lasts up to five months with regular use, making it as convenient as it is effective.

Shaviour is for those who want a cleaner, easier shaving experience—without the hassle.
